Well-being is first of all respect.

Well-being? It means a lot, really a lot. It means feeling good together.

"I have been working at Parmacotto for 29 years, I started in production and over the years I have moved on to an operational and organizational level, now I have a position in safety and security and one of my duties is also protecting the environment."

Environmental well-being according to Michele

First and foremost, I feel that is my duty to try to teach my children to respect the environment. I try to make them understand how important it is to carry out even small daily actions to respect the environment: I believe that if each one of us is engaged in these small steps we can really make a difference, as long as we all act all together. This attention to the environment is also progressively more important for Parmacotto: here we try to take concrete actions, rather than talking, and that is important to what we do and the way we do it. From small changes to big action. Let me give you an example: One of our suppliers’ trucks broke down and spilled an unknown liquid on the company's courtyard that created a sort of rainbow on the concrete. The CEO immediately called me to assess if it was a flammable liquid. Once this first concern was addressed, there was still the question of a possible environmental impact. We studied the situation and activated all the mitigating procedures. It was decided to proceed with an "emergency" cleaning according to the environmental criteria, despite the fact that the intervention had rather high costs. We performed a complete cleaning of the contaminated areas, and we also collected the wastewater and sent it to an authorized disposal center. By following all these principles, we brought the courtyard of the plant back to normal condition while preventing any possible environmental consequences. After this episode we have set up a procedure so that we are ready to act promptly and effectively if any similar episode arises.

The courage to be good

Does courage come from being good or does it take courage to be good? In our society run by a business mentality, investing in assets that are not immediately "repaid" is certainly a very courageous choice.
It takes courage to face challenges that do not necessarily bring an immediate monetary outcome, but that have rather to do with the overall well-being.
For me it is more important than ever to interact with children: the project A Scuola di Cotto, for example, is the most beautiful thing that has been done here: it’s our way to develop thinking minds.
