Community well being

Connections

A project promoting healthy living aimed at children and adolescents

The Connections project was launched in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and adolescents. The symptoms found include learning difficulties and extreme psychological distress, such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders.

Objectives of the project

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

We believe that quality education is the basis for improving people’s well-being and achieving appropriate and concrete learning outcomes. We want to help ensure equity in education through social and educational integration projects, eliminating inequality and ensuring access to all levels of education and training.

Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

We want to bolster efforts to protect and safeguard the cultural, artistic and social heritage of the communities in which we operate, conscious that the challenges can be met by improving inclusion and reducing poverty and social inequality. We envisage a future with welcoming, open and inclusive communities that offer opportunities for all.

Distress resulting from the pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great distress among children and adolescents, mainly due to social isolation. Children have frequently been left alone without the tools to manage their anxieties.

“In light of this, we are taking concrete steps to promote a culture of prevention that considers all aspects of health. Hence the initial idea of offering 500 families in the Group the chance to learn about the issues that could arise in the relationship between parents and their children, as well providing the tools to deal with them. - Andrea Schivazappa, Chief Executive Officer of the Parmacotto Group.

This is how the Connections project, which was born out of our collaboration with the Paediatrics unit of the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, came into being: a commitment to community well-being that is firmly embedded in the Parmacotto Group’s sustainability strategy, dedicated to people's well-being both inside and outside the Group.

Progetto Connessioni per disturbi alimentari bambini causati dal Covid 19

The course consists of four models

Each module covers specific emerging themes related to the world of children and adolescents.

The first module covers the prevention and reduction of emotional distress and aggression.

The second module focuses on how to identify and avoid bullying, cyberbullying, and the harmful effects of the excessive use of smartphones, tablets and television. This session takes an educational approach: a digital literacy programme on which children learn computer skills and, above all, develop greater awareness of how to use digital devices and social networks correctly.

The third module focuses on the prevention and control of infectious diseases and the appropriate use of antibiotics, while also addressing issues related to the immune system and vaccinations.

Finally, a fourth topic focuses on food education and the importance of sports and exercise, appropriate to the different age groups, to help prevent diet-related health problems from developing.
